Maxime….

One of our favourites at Miss Polonia Australia is the beautiful Maxime Calington from Malmo, Sweden.

 

 

Maxime, you may remember was Miss Polonia-Sweden 2008.

 

Her charismatic personality captured the imagination of the Judging Panel and viewers at the Miss Polonia Final in Year 2008 when she was rewarded with a Top 5 finish in the contest eventually won by Angelika Jakubowska.

 

 

In 2009 Maxime also participated in Miss Universe Sweden 2009 where she represented her home province of Skane.

 

 

Recently we caught up with Maxime who remains an active supporter of the Miss Polonia network. 

 

Her new role as Vice President of the Miss Polonia Sweden organisation involves the annual selection of Miss Teen and the new Miss Polonia Sweden .

Maxime is equally dedicated to her favourite charity the United Sisters of Sweden, a Foundation which assists young girls cope with life situations involving drugs, weight, sex, love, school, family and many other challenging issues. Maxime is the youngest spokesperson at United Sisters and in demand for public speaking roles.

Modelling and study is still part of her active life. 

 

Maxime shares her modelling roles between Sweden and Poland in promotions involving haute couture, jewellery, lingerie, music videos and runways. Featured are some recent fantasy make up shots of Maxime by renowned Swedish photographer Tony Kohrsen.  

Studywise Maxime who speaks fluent English, Swedish and Polish will concentrate on a career in either Law or Real Estate and recently applied to ….Wait For It !!!!….an Australian University to continue her academic career.

So you never know how life will pan out for the lovely Maxime… who after all… may become an Aussie and without doubt automatically will join the team at Miss Polonia Australia!!!!

Miss Polonia - Part of “Pin-Up Girl” History

The descriptive term “Pin-Up Girl” commenced in 1941, however the practice of “pinning up” photographs, drawings, paintings and other illustrations of shapely models goes back to the 1890’s.

In the early days the “Pin-Up” genre gave rise to several well known artists such as Charles Dana Gibson, Alberto Vargas, George Petty , Gil Elvgren and Art Frahm.

The pin-ups would be mass produced on postcards, posters, calendars, even magazine and newspaper cut-outs becoming an instant hit and part of popular culture.

Betty Grable…..

One of the most popular early Pin-Up Girls was Betty Grable whose poster adorned the lockers of American G.I’s during WW2. Her iconic bathing suit pose (photographed by Frank Powolny) was later included in the list of Life magazine’s “100 Photos which changed the World”.

The Miss Polonia “Vanities Girls”….Coming Soon!!!!!!!

Aperture Studios in Richmond, Australia on Tuesday 22nd December 2009 was the scene for one of the most memorable photographic shoots in the history of Miss Polonia Australia.

We ask our readers to be patient as the images from the talented lens of Photographer Vito Vampatella will be made public in the New Year.

Normally a preamble would not be subject of an website article but the Office of Miss Polonia Australia is so excited at the prospect of the wonderful images hitting the mainstream media.

 

 

 

The theme for the shoot is the “Vanities Girls”  - inspired by the 1950’s look in the iconic magazine Vanity Fair and a pet project nurtured & created by Vito Vampatella and his stylist wife Evelyn during the past 4 years.

 

 

 

 

The most magnificent images feature Natalia Strzelczyk, Dominika Lipinska and our fab twins Alicja and Amelia Modzelewska - and we at Miss Polonia Australia would just like to go on the record prior to the public release of the images to say………   ” WE TOLD YOU SO !!! “

In particular we would like to thank Bodyography Australia, makeup artists Jodie and Erin, Stylist Donna Billing from Hair ExtroDonnaire, Fashion Designer Estelle Michaelides and Siren Doll who supplied the outfits and headwear used.

Miss Polonia Australia is very proud that Vito and Evelyn Vampatella chose to use our beautiful ambassadors for their project.

Bodyography News featuring Miss Polonia

In “Corporate News” and with great relevance to Miss Polonia - Bodyography Australia has been announced as the inaugural winner of the Bodyography International Distributor of the Year Award for 2009.

“Bodyography Australia has been recognised for the hard honest work and total commitment to promoting Bodyography and being a model distributor in Australia”…said Shawn Russell Vice President of International Sales at Robanda International Inc.

 

Bodyography Australia’s association with Miss Polonia is well known and in the latest issue of the official Bodyography Newsletter which is distributed in over 30 countries the feature photo is none other than the beautiful Angelika Jakubowska.

 Also making an appearance in the Newsletter is Natalia Strzelczyk in an article on Bodyography Australia’s recent Birthday celebration featured earlier on our website.

 

 Well done once again to Rob Tamburro and the team at Bodyography Australia.

Miss Polonia and “Snowflake” at the APCS Christmas Party

Dominika Lipinska and President Lynette Pater represented the Office of Miss Polonia Australia at the Annual Christmas party for our preferred charity, the Australian Polish Community Services (APCS) on the 8th December 2009.  

APCS is a  non-for-profit and charitable organisation established over 25 years ago to meet the specific needs of an ageing population of Australians with Polish ancestry. APCS has since expanded into other communities reflecting the unique assimilation of multi-cultural Australia. 

In particular APCS specialises in home based Aged Care services but also a provides a diverse range of community based programs such Emergency Relief Assistance, English language and Computer classes to over 500 clients.

APCS is generally considered to be the “jewel in the crown” of Australian organisations which originally emanated from the Polish community and currently employs over 60 payroll staff and 100 volunteers.

Miss World-Victoria 2010

The Office of Miss Polonia Australia were guests at the Miss World-Victoria Final held at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Melbourne on Sunday 6th December.

Professional ballet dancer Mietta Gornall, 21 won the State title whilst the Runner Up was the equally attractive Kathleen Andona-Duff. As Miss World-Victoria, Mietta will compete in the Australian final with the chance to represent Australia in the Miss World title in September 2010.

Who knows Mietta may meet up with Miss Polonia 2009 Maria Nowakowska ????

The organisors put on a wonderful show hosted by “Make me a Supermodel” winner Rhys Ulhich.

The Miss World Victoria Judging Panel included Lillian Frank who also attended the Miss Polonia Australia Final won by Dominika Lipinski and where Lillian’s husband Richard Frank was a member of the Miss Polonia Australia Judging Panel.

MISS WORLD UPDATE….13TH DECEMBER 2009

 

 

The new Miss World 2009 is Kaiane Aldorino from the island of Gibraltar.  

 

Second place getter was Miss Mexico with the local girl from South Africa in third place.

Miss Polonia ..the tradition continues !!!

80 years of tradition can perhaps be only truly savoured in reflection. 

Recent events and highlights are something that we can readily relate to within a smaller time frame.

And so it goes with Barbara Tatara passing over the Miss Polonia title to Angelika Jakubowska last year and Angelika handing over the coveted title to Maria Nowakowska on 24th October 2009. In the end these highlights make up the sum of the parts to allow the continuance of a wonderful tradition.

 

What a year its’ been for Angelika.

Unlike her predecessors the modern Miss Polonia is increasingly global and not limited to a domestic or European stage.

Angelika’s Miss Polonia journey took her to Australia, The Bahamas, Thailand and more recently to China. She mingled with the superstars of Formula 1, captains of Industry, political leaders, Olympic Gold Medallists and experienced some of the most exotic cultures on the planet.

Exciting?…You bet!
